v of collaboration it was concern, the begun during July 2002, BMW and PSA Peugeot Citroen today together develop new standards in the region of constructing the gasoline engines. This concerns, in the first place, their technical characteristics, which must provide pleasure from the driving, and in the second place, reduction in the consumption of fuel and level of the ejection of the dioxide of carbon (CO2). Beginning from 2006, the engines, produced on the given standards, will be established on the automobiles of the average and small class Peugeot and Citroen, and also on the future models MINI, and the assumed quantity of automobiles, equipped with such engines to this period, will comprise order of million.

V the course of the technological session, which was being taken place in Munich, in the scientific research center of concern BMW, leaders of both partner sides presented the detailed technical description of the designs of two types of the engines: - atmospheric engine with the gas-distributing mechanism with changed with geometry, by volume 1,6 l, power of 85 kVt/yyshch l. s. - engine with the straight fuel injection, with the turbocompressor, with a volume of 1,6 l, with power 105 kVt/yyae l. s.

Both these engines will be the first-borns of the family of power units, into composition of which to the period assigned will enter the engines, with the range of power from 55 kVt/"shch hp to 125 kVt/y"0 hp numerous of know-how, introduced by each of it is concern, they will be used in the completely new mechanical knots: - gas-distributing mechanism with the variable distance of rise of valves; - oil pump with the controlled oil feed; - the use of one belt drive for all auxiliary it is main and mechanisms; - the head of cylinder block, poured according to the method of "single-time molding".

Furthermore, with the development of engines modernization affected and other systems: - the system of straight fuel injection for the optimization of the power of engine; - a turbocompressor of the type Twin-Scroll for an improvement in the pick-up of engine; - the water pump with the function of turning off, which decreases the consumption of fuel and the decreasing level of the ejection of pollutants.

Collaboration is concern BMW and PSA Peugeot Citroen convincingly proves, that the gasoline engines still possess potential for the technological improvement.
